If your child's nearsightedness seems to be getting worse year after year, you're not alone. Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is becoming increasingly common among children and adolescents. At Richman Eye Care, we offer myopia management services designed to help slow the progression of myopia and reduce the risk of future eye health complications associated with high levels of nearsightedness. Our goal is not only to help your child see clearly today, but to help protect their vision for the future.
Myopia is a condition that causes distant objects to appear blurry while near objects remain clear. Myopia typically begins during childhood and often progresses as a child grows.
Many parents assume that stronger glasses each year are simply a normal part of growing up. However, increasing levels of myopia can place children at greater risk for serious eye conditions later in life. Higher levels of myopia have been associated with an increased risk of retinal detachment, myopic macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other eye complications.
Because of these long-term risks, eye care professionals now focus not only on correcting blurry vision but also on slowing the progression of myopia whenever possible.
Myopia management refers to treatments designed to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children. Rather than simply updating glasses each year, myopia management aims to reduce the rate at which a child's prescription worsens over time. Research has shown that early intervention can help reduce the progression of myopia and potentially lower the risk of future eye health complications.
Children may benefit from myopia management if they have been diagnosed with myopia, experience frequent prescription increases, have parents who are nearsighted, and/or developed myopia at a young age.
At Richman Eye Care, treatment recommendations are individualized based on your child's age, prescription, lifestyle, and visual needs. Our goal is to slow the progression of myopia while helping your child achieve comfortable, clear vision. Depending on your child's specific situation, treatment options may include specialized myopia management spectacle lenses, soft contact lens options for myopia management, and/or low-dose atropine therapy
At Richman Eye Care, we understand that parents want to do everything possible to support their child's long-term eye health. We take the time to educate families about myopia, discuss available treatment options, and develop personalized management plans based on each child's unique needs. We proudly serve families throughout Plano, North Dallas, Richardson, Allen, Frisco, and surrounding communities.
